Vice President – Human Capital and Workforce Capability, United Health Group ​

Gayatri Varma has had an illustrious career in Human Resources, spanning over 23 years. Her stripes have been earned across Financial Services, KPO, Manufacturing, Pharmaceuticals and Diversified Industry sectors in leading HR teams and providing comprehensive solutions to Staffing & Rewards management, Talent Management, HR compliance, Employee Engagement, Organization Design & Effectiveness and Labor Relations.

Gayatri is currently Vice President – Human Capital and Workforce Capability at UnitedHealth Group supporting the Global Solutions and Services business which has a footprint across India, Philippines, Ireland, Brazil and the US. In her role, she is responsible for the People Strategy and HR function for the business in addition to overseeing communications, workforce management and business continuity function. Gayatri is part of the core leadership team that drives the overall business strategy and works in tandem with the business CEO and COO to ensure seamless execution.

Gayatri joined UnitedHealth Group in Oct 2011 and has been responsible for the transformation of the Human Capital function for her business. She has helped the business achieve scale from 5000 employees to the current 27000 employee base across multiple geo’s and well as enable the business to make the strategic shift to commercialization of its services and offerings. Her strength lies in driving foundational transformation to achieve strategic and sustainable growth. Her performance has been recognized by both business and human capital leaders in the Company. She currently leads a team of over 175 human capital professionals.

Prior to UHG, Gayatri was with Bharti Airtel as the Chief People Officer, Mobile Services business for India and South Asia. Till July 2010, Gayatri was with American Express as Vice President & Head – Human Resources India, Middle East & Africa where she led the HR function. During the decade long stint with American Express, Gayatri worked across all the business units of consumer card, commercial card, American Express Bank and the ITES businesses of finance, consumer operations and analytics. She was also instrumental in the creation and delivery of HR Shared Services in India and other Asia-Pacific markets of the company. Under her stewardship of the HR function, American Express has been the recipient of much noteworthy people-centric recognition as an employer of choice.

Prior to joining American Express, Gayatri has worked with Citi Group, Max India Limited and Hewitt Associates.

Gayatri has been voted amongst India’s best HR Leadership by Human Factor magazine, Nov 2010 and was conferred the Women’s Super Achiever Award at the World HRD Congress 2009.
 
Gayatri is a management graduate from IMT, Ghaziabad and also an alumnus of BITS, Pilani from where she completed her M.Sc. (Tech).
